Furniture installation and assembly service

The furniture assembly and installation service includes the fitting of the furniture ordered by two or more experienced professionals, appointed to assemble the pieces correctly inside the client’s home.

Assembly takes place after home delivery and requires the rooms to be accessible, clear of obstacles and suitable for the work to be carried out. Before the scheduled date, it is important to check access routes, destination rooms, walls, services and the general condition of the property.

Furniture assembly service at a glance

  • Installation of the furniture ordered, where included in the service purchased;
  • Two or more professionals, depending on the type of order and installation required;
  • Home delivery as the preliminary stage before assembly;
  • Client presence or an authorised representative with decision-making authority;
  • Accessible rooms, clean and clear of obstacles;
  • Final inspection with signature of the delivery note.

What the furniture assembly and installation service includes

The assembly service is designed to complete the installation of the furniture purchased correctly, in accordance with the product specifications and in line with the conditions of the destination room. Certain works, service connections or tasks not directly related to furniture assembly are not included, unless specifically agreed and confirmed before dispatch.

What is included

  • Assembly of the furniture ordered, following the product’s technical instructions;
  • Positioning of the items in the rooms indicated by the client;
  • Standard fixing of items requiring it, where the walls are suitable;
  • General inspection of the final result together with the client or authorised representative;
  • Collection of packaging and general tidying of the work area;
  • Removal or disposal of packaging only where included in the service purchased or specifically agreed.

What is not included

  • Dismantling or removal of existing furniture, unless agreed at the outset;
  • Plumbing, electrical or gas connections;
  • Alterations to walls, floors, coverings or services;
  • Cable holes, socket cut-outs or bespoke modifications not previously arranged;
  • Chemical anchors, reinforcements or special fixings not previously agreed;
  • Future adjustments resulting from the natural settling of the furniture.

Additional services and extra work

Any additional services, where available, must be requested and confirmed before dispatch or before the assembly appointment. This allows feasibility, timing, working methods and any supplementary costs to be assessed in advance.

Before furniture assembly: what to prepare

To allow the installers to work properly, the room must be ready, accessible and free from obstacles. The assembly service does not include clearing rooms, moving existing furniture or preparing the work area.

Before the fitters arrive, it is therefore advisable to check that the property is in the necessary condition to receive and install the furniture ordered.

Checklist before the installers arrive

  • Clear the access route and the assembly area;
  • Remove furniture, fragile objects or obstacles from the relevant rooms;
  • Ensure the overall cleanliness of the space;
  • Make electrical power available in the rooms concerned;
  • Check any building management rules or access restrictions;
  • Keep information on services, walls and fixing points available.

Client responsibilities during furniture assembly

During assembly, it is important for the client, or an authorised representative, to be present in order to make operational decisions together with the installers. Certain choices, such as the final position of the furniture, alignment, heights or orientation, may require confirmation on site.

Presence or authorisation

The client must be present during the works or appoint an adult representative with full decision-making authority. The representative must be able to confirm positions, practical solutions and any choices necessary to complete the assembly in accordance with the client’s preferences.

Instructions for the installers

The client or authorised representative must indicate the exact desired positions for the furniture, point out any constraints within the space and promptly provide any information useful for avoiding mistakes, damage or work that cannot be carried out.

Aspect to check Client responsibility Why it matters
Presence on site Be present or appoint a representative with decision-making authority. Allows choices and positions to be confirmed during assembly.
Assembly area Leave the rooms clear, accessible and generally clean. Reduces the risk of delays, interruptions or accidental damage.
Electrical power Provide a working power socket in the rooms concerned. Installers may need to use electric tools.
Hidden services Report pipes, cables, drains or services located within the walls. Prevents drilling in unsafe or unsuitable points.
Fixing walls Check that they are suitable for supporting wall-hung furniture or fixed elements. Holding strength depends on the wall material, thickness, condition and load-bearing capacity.

Walls, hidden services and furniture fixings

Some furniture requires wall fixing or the anchoring of suspended elements. In these cases, the wall must be suitable, stable and compatible with the weight and type of furniture. The mere presence of a wall does not always guarantee that fixing is possible.

Wall suitability

It is the client’s responsibility to check that the wall intended for fixing is suitable for the installation of the furniture. Plasterboard walls, lightweight partitions, deteriorated masonry, delicate coverings or non-load-bearing supports may require checks, reinforcements or specific fixing systems not included in the standard service.

Electrical and plumbing services

The client must report the presence of any hidden services that could interfere with the installation, such as electrical cables, water pipes, drains, heating systems, air-conditioning systems or other technical elements located within the walls.

Standard and special fixings

Standard assembly may include the use of ordinary fixing systems, where compatible with the wall and with the product. Any special fixings, chemical anchors, structural reinforcements or non-standard works must be assessed and agreed separately.

Properties under construction, inaccessible or unsuitable for assembly

The assembly service cannot be carried out in properties that are not habitable, are still under construction or are unsuitable for safe working conditions. Rooms must be complete, accessible, clean and ready for the furniture to be installed.

When assembly may be stopped

If the installation team finds unsuitable conditions, such as ongoing building works, inaccessible rooms, no electrical power, obstacles, unsafe spaces or the impossibility of working correctly, they may stop the delivery and assembly operations.

Kerbside delivery or a new appointment

If the service is stopped, the client may decide whether to accept the order at kerbside level, without entitlement to any refund, or schedule a new delivery with assembly once the works have been completed. In the latter case, storage costs and a second delivery charge may apply.

Work not included and subsequent interventions

The furniture assembly service covers the assembly and installation of the furniture purchased, but does not include building works, service connections, bespoke modifications or later interventions not directly connected with standard assembly.

Works excluded from the standard service

  • Electrical, plumbing or gas connections;
  • Changes to sockets, drains, pipes or lighting points;
  • Cable holes, cuts, recesses or adaptations not previously arranged;
  • Installation of lamps, wall lights or electrified elements not previously agreed;
  • Dismantling, moving or disposal of existing furniture;
  • Works on walls, floors, coverings or masonry.

Replacement parts and future adjustments

The service does not include the fitting of replacement parts where their absence does not substantially prevent completion of the assembly. Such replacements may be handled by kerbside delivery or, where necessary, through the purchase of a new assembly service.

Future adjustments resulting from the natural settling of the furniture are also not included, such as adjustments to hinges, doors, runners, opening mechanisms or sliding doors that have come off their track.

Completion of works, final inspection and delivery note

At the end of the works, the installers, together with the client or authorised representative, check the conformity of the installed furniture and the final result. This inspection is important to verify the condition of the products, the outcome of the assembly and the presence of any visible issues.

Final inspection

  • Check that the installed furniture corresponds to the order supplied;
  • Verify that there are no visible issues with the products;
  • Report any problems before signing;
  • Confirm the final result together with the installers;
  • Record any irregularities on the delivery note.

Issues during assembly

Any issues with the products or with the property may compromise completion of the assembly. In such circumstances, the installer will assess the situation in order to decide how to proceed and whether the installation can be completed.

Why the delivery note is important

Any irregularities found in the products or in the property during the assembly stages must be recorded on the delivery note, which the installers will ask the client to sign before leaving the home.

Later claims relating to issues not reported at the time of assembly may not be accepted, as it would not be possible to verify whether the problems arose during the installation works or at a later stage.

Packaging, order and cleanliness of the room

At the end of the service, the installers leave the work area in a generally tidy and clean condition, in line with the operations carried out. Packaging is collected and handled according to the service purchased.

If removal or disposal of packaging is not included, the packaging may be collected, folded and placed in the area of the property indicated by the client.

Packaging management

  • Collection of packaging at the end of assembly;
  • Placement in the area indicated by the client, where removal is not included;
  • Removal and disposal only where included or requested as part of the service;
  • Compliance with any building management rules, access restrictions or local authority requirements;
  • Work area left generally tidy and clean.
