Technical insight

Tempered glass: it is made through a heat treatment, in which the monolithic glass (float) is heated to high temperatures and then rapidly cooled by jets of air. This process cools the surface layers first, hardening them and keeping the inside warm longer. This thermal shock causes a strain on the surface which makes tempered glass six times more resistant than float glass.

Tempered glass is considered safety glass, because if it breaks, it forms tiny rounded fragments that are not very dangerous for people.

Laminated glass: it is made by coupling glass plates by inserting a film of plastic material in the middle. This film usually made of PVB (polyvinyl butyral) with a thickness of 0.38 mm or more, in the event of glass breakage, keeps the pieces attached to each other and prevents the formation of sharp fragments. Laminated glass is also called laminated glass.
